How we approach hardscape
Hardscape is the skeleton of a landscape: the terraces you live on, the driveway that greets you, the walls that hold the hill. We build it with the tolerances of finish carpentry, because outdoors is where sloppy work shows first and fails fastest.
The unglamorous parts get designed first, and they are specific: excavation to a depth set by what the surface has to carry, aggregate compacted in lifts rather than dumped and rolled once, a screeded bedding layer, edge restraint so the field cannot creep outward, and drainage routed away from the structure instead of toward it. Steel goes where the engineering calls for it. That is why our pavers stay flat, our walls stay plumb, and our joints stay tight in year five.

Hardscape questions
The real difference is what happens when something moves. Pavers are individually set on a compacted base, so a settled, stained, or cracked area can be lifted, the base re-screeded, and the same pavers reset with no visible repair. Poured or board-formed concrete is a rigid slab: it gives cleaner monolithic lines and suits modern architecture, but any repair means saw-cutting out a section, and matching an existing color and finish is rarely perfect. Pavers also drain through permeable joints. In seismic country that argues for pavers on large surfaces, though many of our best projects use both, and the drawn plan shows the choice in context before you commit.
