We build this site to the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard. We are not claiming full conformance, because parts of that standard can only be confirmed by testing with real assistive technology and we have not finished doing that. Below is what we have actually measured and what is still open.
What we have tested and measured
Keyboard. Every page can be operated without a mouse. There is a "Skip to main content" link as the first stop, focus indicators are visible, and no part of the site traps focus. The leaf animation that opens the residential and commercial pages can be dismissed with the Enter key or the Escape key, and focus moves into the page afterwards.
Colour contrast. Every text and background pair in the site's palette was computed against the WCAG formula. The lowest measured ratio is 4.6:1 against a 4.5:1 requirement, and ordinary body text sits between 13.5:1 and 16:1.
Images. All 171 images carry an alt attribute. The 164 that are decorative are marked as such so a screen reader skips them rather than reading out filenames.
Motion. No video autoplays with sound, and none of the video on this site has audio at all. If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, the animations are disabled automatically. There is also a "Pause motion" control in the footer of every page.
Zoom and small screens. At a 320-pixel-wide window the page reflows with no horizontal scrolling and nothing is cut off.
The estimate form. Every field has a visible label that stays visible, the right keyboard type on phones, and autocomplete so a browser can fill it in. If a submission fails, focus moves to the message explaining why, and the confirmation is announced when it succeeds.
Structure. One main heading per page, headings in order with no skipped levels, real landmarks, real buttons and real links rather than clickable images of them.
What we have not tested yet
We have not completed testing with screen readers — NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver — by a person who uses one daily. Automated checks and scripted keyboard testing catch a great deal, but they cannot tell you whether alt text is actually useful, or whether a page makes sense read aloud from top to bottom.
We have not numerically verified contrast for the few headings that sit over video or photography. Those areas carry a darkening layer behind the text, but the exact ratio depends on the frame underneath.
We have not tested with voice control software, screen magnifiers above 200%, or switch access.
Known limitations
The residential and commercial pages open with a full-screen animation of falling leaves that has to be dismissed before the page is visible. It is skipped automatically if your device requests reduced motion, it can be dismissed with a key press, and it appears once per page, per visit. But it is an extra step that no other page on this site asks of you, and we know some people will find it unwelcome.
Images are served at one size for every screen. That does not affect whether you can read or use the page, but it means the site downloads more than it needs to on a phone, which matters on a slow connection.
