How we approach planting and sod
Planting is the part of the landscape that is alive, which means it is the part that must be chosen for this climate, not for a catalog photo. We design layered, drought-tolerant palettes that look composed on day one and better in year five, with structure from trees, rhythm from grasses, and color that returns on schedule.
Lawns still have a place when they are done honestly: the right variety, healthy soil underneath, drip-fed edges, and a size that earns its water. We install sod, renovate tired lawns, and plant everything from one-gallon fillers to mature specimen olives.

Planting and Sod questions
Not the way we design it. Layered Mediterranean and California-native palettes read lush: silvery foliage, structured hedges, seasonal color, and grasses that move. Gravel-and-cactus minimalism is a style choice, not a requirement.
We install living lawns: the right sod variety on prepared soil, drip-edged and sized sensibly, stays cooler, ages naturally, and feeds the soil under it. If a space cannot support a living lawn, we would rather design planting that thrives there.
Fall through early spring is ideal, since roots establish in cool weather ahead of summer heat. With drip irrigation and establishment care we plant successfully year-round, adjusting the palette to the season.
